February Sponsors

April is a twenty something blogger running 'Beautiface'- a beauty, lifestyle and fashion blog from London. She posts a variety of reviews, baking and tutorial posts as well as some shopping hauls. April has been blogging since January 2013 and her blog has a lovely fresh feel to it. Talking about layouts she also offers blog designs from as a little as £10. Her portfolio can be found on her blog as well as the details about her design packages. If she sounds like your kind of blogger go and have a look at her site and maybe give her a follow.

'Shuttersong' is a great new app for your iPhone that allows you to record up to 15 seconds of music to add to your pictures. This would be perfect for remembering occasions when the sound is just as important as the pictures such as at music gigs (where I would use it most) and taking photos of your children as they grow up. Another excellent things about the app is your friends don’t need the app to view your shutter songs- you can share them on facebook or your own shuttersong stream. Another thing for us bloggers is you can also add them to your blog post.

'The Money Shed' is a brilliant site for anyone who want to earn money online from home. You can talk to like-minded people in their forums including topics like earning money online and money saving tips. This would be great for students, stay at home parents or anyone trying to save for something special. Don’t forget to head there too if you have some helpful blog posts and share them. There are more opportunities for people earn cash than ever from home. All it takes is finding the right solution that is where the money shed fits in- go and check it out.

'Looks and Lifestyle' is Jen’s blog- she is in her early twenties and already an award-winning UK blogger who writes about all things fashion, beauty and lifestyle related. Her blog is just over 6 months old. She posted regularly with a mix of reviews, recipe find of the week posts and lovely outfits (my favorite is her valentines looks). She loves everything Disney and own far too many nail polishes so if this sounds like your kind of blogger go and have a look at her site and maybe give her a follow.

If you don’t know about Ari from 'The Happy Cactus Shop' already why not? She has been a continuing support to my little blog. She is attempting to have a handmade life and her store sells (among other things) folded wallets, clutches and scarves all in super cute and funky fabrics. You can also check out Ari’s photography while you’re on her site- she takes lovely photos of nature around her home in Alabama with her dogs and husband.

The owner of ‘The Beauty and the Gin’ is Robin a beauty and lifestyle blogger based in the fabulous Los Angeles. Her blog features a range of beauty reviews, recipe posts. If you enjoy food, cocktails and nightlife then give her page a look and maybe even give her a follow. If you also like to dabble in makeup, style, food and drinks then hopefully you'll enjoy her posts.

Wardrobe Conversations’ is a unique blog run by Helen and Kimberley who grew up in sunny Scotland (slightly bias here). They now live two hours' drive apart, so don't see each other as often. They decided that a blog would be the perfect excuse for us to get together and share their love of fashion. They enjoy fashion, vintage, tea and art. Helen is clothing design graduate who runs her own business. Kimberley is an English Language graduate who works in education but together they are the perfect fashion blogging pair. Please have a look at their blog.

Alternative February Favourites

After being uninspired to blog all week I thought I would do a sort of alternative February favourites post with the best things form the month. The fabulous Olivia from 'What Olivia Did' did something similar for January. Hope you enjoy it and please leave your feedback in the comments below.

The Wolf Of Wall Street... This was not only the best film I saw this month but also the best day out in February. A lot of people have seen this film by now and wasn't it bloody fantastic. Not only is it full on all the way through but I couldn't guess what would happen to Jordan in the end. I went with my friend Scott on the first weekend of the month and actually find it difficult to believe it was this month- seems so long ago. Basically if you've not seen it you've got to go now!

Bought a New Handbag... I don't usually buy primark from charity shops but when I spotted this one in a local shop I couldn't resist. It hadn't been used hardly at all and was only £2.50. It is a lovely brown leather effect and has a cool clasp. Even if it doesn't last me along time for less than £3 it is well worth it for a good autumn/winter colour.

Got an Offer from the University of Aberdeen... 14th of February 2014 will be on my mind for a long time because it was the day I got my first conditional uni offer. If you aren't familiar with UCAS they first email you telling you 'something has changed on your application' so you've got to rush into the website, log on and looks at what they've said. I had six rejections last year so I was especially nervous and felt so sick by the time I logged on. However, it was good news! I screamed and ran down to my mum, phoned my dad and the rest of my family. Everyone was so happy!!

Snapped Up a New Scarf... Mum and I popped into Newlook one Thursday morning because I wanted a new skater skirt and we spotted all this lovely knitwear in the accessories section all for just £1!! I got a few things but this scarf was my favourite it is Aztec patterned (if you can't tell already I love it) and it's huge. It was originally £12.99 so was defiantly the bargain of the month too.

Baked Profiteroles... Finally bite the bullet and gave these little treats ago at the weekend. They were quite tricky and the photos you see were my second attempt but they turned out so well and were perfect. Although there was a couple of difficult parts like piping and filling the choux pastry buns with cream I managed and hopefully will get better every time I make them. Maybe they will be a perfect birthday treat- which is in less than a month by the way (cards and presents welcome).

Hope everyone is having a good week- hopefully going shopping with mum either tomorrow or Saturday. Will update you all next week.

My week in pictures #56

(From top left) My perfect profiteroles I made this afternoon. Scotland won the rugby match against Italy- watched the whole match on my feet. I've done lots of scrapbooking this week. Watched sightseers with mum- I never find black comedies as funny as she does and this one was kinda dark.

Well as you can see from the four pictures I managed to put together for this post I've not done anything interesting this week. I did managed to do some uni work four out of five days which might account for it. I received my letter from Aberdeen Uni confirming my offer so it has motivated me to work really hard.

On Thursday evening I decided to try and make profiteroles but I must of added to much egg and the picture was way to runny to pipe. I put the mixture in muffin cases and they turned out okay- have a look at my Instagram picture. Needless to say being a perfectionist I had to give it another go so today I tried a different recipe. As you can see above they worked perfectly and we will be having them for pudding tonight.

Saturday was another rugby match for Scotland we went into it with very little hope after our last defeat against England. However, despite everything, we won!! It was defiantly the best game of rugby I've seen in ages.

Apart from that I've spent the week blogging, reading my geology textbook and game of thrones. It is keeping me up way to late at night and I can't wake up in the morning. I shut my eyes for a couple of seconds and woke up half an hour later- twice! What is wrong with me?

Did anyone else watch the Brit awards? I found them really exciting and I was hooked all the way through. So glad Bastille won best British breakthrough act after I voted for them. I also have been doing some scrapbooking- I had loads of pictures to put in. I've used them all up now so I ordered some more including the pictures I took at T in the park. Can't wait til they arrive.

I added a few things to my ASOS sale. I am looking to sell everything so please make me an offer if you are interested. If you have any questions please send me a message.

Next Friday sees the end of the week and that means renewing my blog sponsors in my sidebar. You can find more information in the tab along the top or if you email me at gisforgingers@hotmail.com and I can send you the information.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Blue Denim and Sunshine

Shirt: River Island | Skirt: New Look |  Shoes: New Look
I haven't worn this shirt in a long time but when my aunty and uncle were coming round for a little celebration tea on Sunday I thought it would be a good opportunity to wear it with my new skater skirt. These photos were also taken at the weekend when the sun was shinning hence why I found it hard to expose- I've forgotten because we've not seen the sun in so long.

This shirt has been mine for about a year now and it is so versatile- I styled it in four different ways in my 'how to wear' post. It is really cosy which is perfect for that period into spring although if you were going to be outside for any length of time you would need some nice knitwear and a jacket.

Hope everyone is having a good week and if not its almost the weekend!

Casual Demin

Jacket: Brave Soul | Jumper: Primark | Jeans: H&M | Boots: River Island | Scarf: F&F

We finally had some sunshine on Sunday and I couldn't let it go to waste. This is one of my favourite casual outfits for popping out to the shops at the weekend. The jumper is an old classic from Primark that I can't wear enough- it is really well made and cosy. I've also had these jeans for years but they have worn really well and I still love the shape of them. Defiantly recommend H&M for classic denim pieces. These river island boots will need replacing soon but at the moment I love them to much to stop wearing them.

I hope your getting a little sun where you are and none of my followers are suffering from the flood. Don't forget my blog sale on ASOS market place.

My week in pictures #55

(From top left) A huge bad of clothes sent up by a friend of my grans. Finally bought a cable so I can connect my macbook to the TV. Mum and I watched the long ranger on Thursday night. Treating my nails with poi's nail envy. A little newlook haul- this little lot only cost me £8... Selfie before my aunt and uncle arrived. Saving my ticket master gift cards so I can pay for my T in the park ticket. My first uni offer!!!
Ahhh I will start of this post with this weeks big news- I'VE GOT A CONDITIONAL OFFER FOR ABERDEEN UNI. After the hell I went through last year words can't describe how relieved/excited/happy I was when I got the news on valentines day.

This has been a good week in our house and I've managed to get some productive things done. On Tuesday when my dad was away mum and I cleared the table in the shed and took lots of things to the charity shop. I also managed to find homes for our two old emacs on gumtree which has cleared loads of space. On Thursday we went into newlook because I wanted a bargain skater skirt and we also got some lovely warm knitwear. My dad and brother were away again so we had a girly night and watched the lone ranger. On Friday my mum finally let me scrub the hard drive on her computer and update everything- hopefully it runs faster now. Sadly however on Friday night our power went off at 6pm and didn't come on again until 10:30am the next day... Luckily we had lots of candles and my laptop was fully charged so I could watch a film.

My dad brought home a huge bag of clothes from a girl my gran knows. I spent Saturday trying things on and I've decided to keep about half of it and the other half I've put on ASOS market place. You can also give me a follow on there because I will be putting some more things on there soon. Today I spent the morning taking outfit pictures for the coming week. The first lots were successful but the 2nd lot I took about 100 pictures and I'm still not sure. My uncle and aunty came for tea and have only just left- that's why this post is so late. It was so nice to see them and catch up after their holiday.

I hope everyone else has had a good weekend. I'm away to put on my jammies and read some blog posts in my bed.

Deliciously Purple Beetroot Soup

Today I thought I would share with you this quick and easy recipe- the awful weather recently has meant that I've not been able to get out and take outfit pictures. Yesterday when it was blowing a gale I decided to make some soup. I've tried this recipe before and found it unbelievably quick and easy. You should defiantly give it a go.

You will need:
500g cooked beetroot (not pickled)
3 small potatoes
1 red onion
1 tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic (crushed)
500ml beef (or any type you want)
2 bay leaves

Firstly peel potatoes and cut them into quarters. Peel and chop the onion- this doesn't have to be done too well because it will be blended. Soften the onion in the oil for 5 minutes, then add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.

Add the potatoes and stock. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, until the potatoes are cooked. Put the beetroot in a blender until smooth. Once the potatoes are cooked add the soup to the blender.

Blend until smooth and return to the pot. I then added two bay leaves and left it to cook until needed or put it in the freezer. Add more stock if you want a thinner soup. Ladle into bowls and that's you done. Doesn't the colour just look delicious?

I hope you've been enjoying these posts because they haven't been receiving as much feedback. I sometimes would prefer my blog to be mostly outfit posts but this is hard with my current lifestyle. Please let me know below what you would like to see more/less of.

Live Laugh Love Shabby Chic Box

I can't tell you how long I've been looking for a wooden box with separate compartments to store my bits and pieces for my hair. Every time I see a nice box I open it to be disappointed when it is just one big space inside. When LiveLaughLove got in touch about reviewing something I jumped at the chance to get this lovely box. I ordered it about 4pm on wednesday and it arrived in the post by Friday. It arrived package carefully in a cardboard box and I couldn't have been more pleased!

The Botanical Range Wooden Box* has a lovely homemade feel to it and all that adds to shabby chic feel. The decoration looks hand painted and the colours are beautiful and subtle.  It is the perfect size for sitting on my shelf- Tickle sits with it and they look super cute together. At the moment I am still looking at things to fill it nicely. I need to get more flowers for my hair but before now I didn't have anywhere to store them nicely. I can't wait to get some for the festival season in the summer.

I love having cute things like this around my bedroom. I can't think of much else to say about the box apart from I love it. I'm looking forward to filling it with beautiful accessories. Hopefully it will feature in my bedroom post soon when I get that all sorted out. I'm still looking for a bedside table to upcycle.

The Botanical Range also has some other lovely items in it so you should take a look. What do you think about this box? Where have you bought hair flowers from?

My week in pictures #54

From top left) My little blog reached 200 followers! Watched American Pie 1 & 2 again- such classic films. Mum and I watched ARGO on Monday night. Spent the day making a cable organiser for my desk drawer. Bought a new handbag from a charity shop. Todays lazy day outfit. I've read two Poirot books. Getting reading to watch the rugby yesterday- not a good show from Scotland though.
Struggling to think of something to say about this week. On Monday evening mum and I had a movie night and watched ARGO- it was very good film but very tense. I didn't know what was going to happen in the end. On Tuesday I went for a little walk in Carnoustie and bought a handbag in the charity shop there. I don't usually buy primark from a charity shop but for something that hasn't been used £2.50 was a bargain. It was a lovely sunny day too and I really enjoyed my wander.

Yesterday I was hoping Scotland would thrash England at the rugby but it wasn't our weekend. In fact we played awful I don't know why we were so sloppy. That was all my activity for the week really- I did some work for uni and read a couple of Poirot book as well as watching the Olympics (strange how much I enjoy different sports) the ski jumping is on at the moment. Today I went for a look in our local newlook with mum- didn't buy anything but I am beginning to regret not buying a dark blue skater skirt and a light blue pastel jumper... Maybe I will go back this week.

Once again I don't have anything planned for next week apart from my brother and dad are going away on Thursday night so hopefully it will mean a chilled movie night. Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Tasty Homemade Microwave Dog Biscuits

Are you ever in the mood to bake but don't want to consume another batch of cakes and biscuits? I have the perfect solution- make some for your dogs! I received a dog biscuit cookbook many Christmases ago and fell in love with making treats for my favourites. Dan is especially appreciative which I love- he defiantly knows these are better than the cheap supermarket variety.

These biscuits should make a perfect chewy treat and would be great for older dogs with bad teeth or difficultly chewing.

You will need:

2 beef stock cubes mixed with 250ml of boiling water
2 cups of whole grain flour
1/2 cup of cornmeal
1 1/2 cups of powdered milk (yuk)
1 cup of rolled oats
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
2 beaten eggs

Mix together all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Yes the first step is that easy.

You should then gradually mix in all the wet ingredients- the eggs, oil, and stock. Keep going until it starts to form a dough.

If the mix is still a little dry and not forming a ball then add a little water to help bring it all together.

Once it has formed a ball transfer it onto a floured surface and knead it for 4/5 minutes. It should stick together nicely and be easy to work with it.

At this point I divide the dough into two balls and put one in the fridge for another day. There is lots of dough and because of the time it takes to cook it is easier to do it in two lots.

I rolled out the dough to about 1/4 of an inch thick and then used a bone shaped cutter. You can just use whatever shape comes to hand though. Then place them on a microwave proof surface.

This is the part I found tricky because my microwave is difficult to control but you should put it on medium and cook the biscuits for five minutes on one side and five minutes on the other. Then turn them again and cook for another couple of minutes. Watch them though- you don't want them to burn.

Have you ever make treats for your pets?

Dressed Up In Maroon, Knitwear and a Patterned Frock

Jumper: Primark | Dress: Primark |  Tights: Charnos* |  Boots: River Island |  Gillet: New Look
It's always a dilemma... What do you wear to the cinema when you are going to sit in the dark for three hours? I went to see the wolf of wall street on Sunday in afternoon with one of my guy friends. I wanted to look pretty and girly without being too dressed up. It is the third time this tea dress has featured on my blog because quite frankly I bloody love it! I am still very very tempted by a similar one on a different colour but then again I don't really need a new dress.

Looking back at these photos I really like the way the different shaded of maroon tie in together. Ideally I would have worn my black boots with the heel (because they are my favourite) but Scott isn't very tall and I didn't want to make him look small. The guy should always be taller right? or is that just me...

The final thing I've to mention is these tights- they aren't black for a change! I've been meaning to buy some grey ones for ages and when Charnos got in touch about giving them a go I jumped at the chance. Like most people I stick to what I know in tights- I know that Tesco medium will fit me but sometimes they aren't the best quality. These ones though have a really nice, high quality feel about them. I was a little unsure about the stripes but I think they look quite good in these pictures. All in all I think they are well worth the £8.00 they cost is well worth it. I have two other pairs to try so when I've decided how to style them I'm sure they will feature too!

My week in pictures #53

(From top left) My little access all asos gift. I made dog biscuits (recipe to follow later on this week). I finally finished the book thief... the ending was very sad. Today I went to see the wolf of wall street and it was bloody fantastic. Got two magazines this week- looking forward to catching up on the new seasons fashions. Received some lovely tights from charnos I've got one pair one now.
After this week I have a new resolution. I need to stop sitting around the house in my jammies on my laptop all day. It really isn't good for me mentally and is just making me lazy and unhappy. I have too many lazy days- hopefully my new uni course starting tomorrow will help to get me motivated. The most exciting thing to arrive this week was my ASOS insiders gift. Dinosaur cutters for a baking geology student- can you get more perfect?

Today I went to the cinema with one of my guy friends and had the loveliest time! It has reminded me that I need to get out more and start seeing people again. When girl friends stab you in the back it is kinda hard to trust anyone and want to go out again. The wolf of wall street is a master piece- Leo is perfect!! It has A LOT of sex, drugs and swearing in it so maybe not for everyone but it is so well written and I enjoyed every minute.

Currently out Internet is very very slow because we 'went over our download limit' What a nightmare!! I'm hating it but there isn't much we can do but hopefully I can keep blogging this week. I have a few things planned for you guys. Hope everyone had a good weekend!!
