Colourful Vegetable Dog Treats

Friday, August 7

Before we start I want to check you've met Dan and Bundi? Click the links, have a read and I'll wait for you I promise. Making treats for my dogs is a rarer and rarer thing since I started university. Dan however (above) is a big fan and won't want me to stop. This recipe makes a nice soft veggie biscuit with lots of whole grain to give it a crunch.

You will need:
1 cup of mixed vegetables in a tin
370g of whole grain flour
1/2 of powdered milk
1 garlic clove
6 tablespoons of vegetable oil
1 egg (beaten)
1/2 cup of cold water

Firstly I put the vegetables in the blender to make a puree but I guess if you didn't have a blender handy you could use a potato masher it just won't be as smooth. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl then gradually add the vegetables, oil and egg. If it is needed add the water in until it forms a good dough.

Divide the mixture in two and kneed on a floured surface for a couple of minutes. Then roll out the dough to about 1/2cm thickness and cut out. I actually have bone cutters but it doesn't really matter the shape.

Pop in the oven at 180° for about 15 minutes. When they come out the carrots give the biscuits a great yellow colour. Dan is already munching his way through them but I still have half the dough to freeze so there will be more to just pop in the oven.

I hope you've enjoyed the recipe - you can check out my previous dog recipe here. Let me know below if you've ever baked treats for your pets.
