The Winter Menu at Chez Mal Brasserie Malmaison Dundee

Thursday, February 27

I love the Chez Mal Brasserie at Malmaison in Dundee so when Scott spotted more vouchers on 'It Is On' for his parents Christmas I said yes so quickly. Fast forward to February and the Saturday we booked for lunch finally came around. Similar to last time our voucher included a two course meal for 4 and a glass of prosecco for £58.

This time it was their winter set menu - there are some time restriction but we could still go on a Saturday lunch time and not feel rushed. We added wine and deserts to our meal which we were happy to do because the voucher was already saving us 50%.

I knew the meal would be filling so to start with I choose the Winter leaf salad with barrel aged feta, clementine, candied walnuts, fennel & pomegranate. It was packed with flavour my sweet tooth especially enjoyed the candied walnuts. It was the perfect way to start the meal even if salad isn't something I normally order.

Looking at this sausage ‘n’ mash again is making my mouth water - it was so good! Made with Cumberland sausage and rich, delicious caramelised red onion gravy. It isn't something I'd order normally because it is easy to make at home but this was elevated and perfect for a stormy day.

Last but definitely not least I knew I was going to order the Valrhona chocolate torte with cherry & Kirsch Chantilly cream before I arrived. It didn't disappoint and although the portion was big and rich I managed to wolf it down. I do love chocolate after all!

Another faultless meal at Chez Mal Brasserie - none of us had a bad thing to say about the food and the atmosphere in the restaurant was bright and welcoming for such horrible weather outside. It did clear up and the sun come out so we could see the V&A and the Discovery from our window seat.

While we were in a wedding party sat down at the top end of the restaurant and had afternoon tea. It looked incredible anyway but having afternoon tea at my wedding would be a dream and I can't imagine a more lovely setting.

If you manage to pick up a voucher like this for Malmasion I couldn't recommend it more. With two bottles of wine between the four of us and four deserts it wasn't the cheapest meal but so worth it for the experience. Normally the prix fixe menu costs £19.95 for two courses and £24.95 three courses.
