Etsy Aberdeen Digital Market Preview

Friday, December 4

When I was a student in Aberdeen the Etsy 'Made Local' market was a lovely, festive activity for the lead up to Christmas. It's great to see some of the gorgeous pieces in real life, pick up a few Christmas presents and support local makers too. I even wrote a blog post about it in 2017 sharing some of my picks from the market.

Like everything else this year the Etsy market is going digital and ahead of the market this weekend (#EtsyAberdeenDigitalMarket2020) I wanted to share some of my picks from the sellers they've been sharing over on Instagram in the hope you'll support them too.

Lobster Print | Bennachie Print | Numpty Print
I think Hame Made's bold wall art would be perfect to inject colour into a simple room. She has some great Scottish words which I think are really fun and for the outdoor lover in your life I love the simplicity of the mountain outlines. Every Aberdonian has climbed Bennachie!

Scottish Foods Tea Towel | Handmade Wreath | Old Town Edinburgh Panoramic Print
I'm a sucker for good illustrations because they have so much personality behind them but Alice Draws are some of my favourites. She has some really nice Christmas decorations and I think my Mum would love the Edinburgh prints to remind her of her student days (and I have a soft spot for Edinburgh too).

Beauelle Earring Stand | Navy And Blush Pink Vase Set | Green Leaf Pattern Earrings
I've seen a real trend for polymer earrings recently but I think Beauelle's colours and designs really stand out. If your looking for a gift for someone who already has tones of earrings then the stand is really unique and such a beautiful way to display them.

Cactus Sun Lampshade | Rio Print | Mountain Sky Lampshade
If you are looking for gifts for someones home then RJS Print's linocut designs are perfect. Lampshade are often over looked for something plain but I love all these designs and think they would make great presents.

Sarah Leask Studio sells a variety of different things with her beautiful water colour painting of flowers and the colours are gorgeous. The gin garnishes tea towel would be a great gift for the gin lover in your life (there are plenty of those) and my love of autumnal leaves grows even more with the glass painting.

Knitted Infinity Scarf | Knitted Pom Pom Beanie Hat | Hot Water Bottle Cover
In Scotland you can never have enough warm items and I love a beautiful scarf. These ones from Candy Coated Accessories really stand out and would make great gifts. The same goes for the hats and hot water bottle covers in lots of different patterns.

I've been loving Juniper Press's work on Instagram for years and think I even highlighted her work in my first Etsy Aberdeen post. I think all her pieces would make perfect gifts but for this post I picked out a print, trinket dish and Christmas decorations in the hope you'll go and check out her site.

Jandies Pin Badge | Braw Bat Pin | Robin Decoration
Last but not least are Small Stories - I love the Scottish (and particular north east) sayings that make really nice gifts. Jandies is a Scottish word originally meaning jaundice but has changed over time to mean germs. It would make a good gift for that person who is always annoyed people aren't earing their face masks.

I am a Woman Doing Science Enamel Pin Badge | Vaccines Cause Adults Tote Bag | Self Care Is Not Selfish Enamel Pin Badge
As someone with a science degree I love some science themed gifts so Science On A Post Card caught my eye straight away. If there is a scientist in your family then there are some really fun pins and if you really want to show your feelings then the vaccines cause adults tote is amazing.

Ceramic Bowl | Handmade Ceramic Hanging Planter | Mini Milk Jug
I'm always drawn to pottery and think it makes a really nice gift because you know how much work has been gone into making it. I've picked out some of my favourites from Fifi's Pottery that would suit the cook, plant lover and coffee addict in your life.

If you want to know more about the digital market and see the other sellers then give the Etsy Aberdeen team a follow on Instagram

Not part of the market but, a shameless mention of my Dads new Etsy shop. To help see them through this pandemic and the downturn in their main income my Dad has decided to sell some of his photography. I know it won't be to everyone's tastes but if you know someone who likes this style I'd really appreciate the share. Please check out Contemporary Photo Art on Etsy.
