5 Things That Made Me Happy This Week #31

Friday, June 17

It still feels like we are waiting on summer... although there are warm days it hasn't been consistently nice outside. At the moment it feels like life is work during the weekend and work in the house at the weekend but there have still been lots of little things that have made me happy.

1. Having a Dog in the House

Although it can be stressful at times (especially when he won't settle in the evenings) having a dog in the house is such a joy and makes it a happier place to come home to. Last night Brodie carried round a piece of cooked penne pasta in his mouth for at least 10 minutes making us both laugh at his silliness.

2. Spending a Few Hours Baking

On Sunday, for no other reason that I really wanted to, I spent a few hours in the kitchen baking Nadiya Hussain's Strawberry Lemonade Cake because I'd seen it on the cover of Good Food Magazine (you can access things like this free via Prime Reading if you have amazon prime). No only was the process of baking a really good way to spend the afternoon but the cake was delicious too.

3. Watching Dolphins in the North Sea

Last week I saw Dolphin's not once but twice while out walking with Brodie. There was one in the harbour on our regular route jumping in the waves and then on Saturday we went to the Torry Battery in Aberdeen where you are almost always guaranteed to see some and they didn't disappoint!

4. Having Nice Weekday Lunches

We started getting lazy with lunches meaning we'd have something very basic from the fridge, something unhealthy or on office days I'd resort to buying food I didn't really want in the canteen. However, this week I planned ahead and made a quinoa salad which lasted two days and I saw this really simple beetroot and feta salad on Zena's Kitchen Instagram via Zoella which was seriously delicious.

5. Exciting Developments with the House Renovation

If you read my last renovation update you'll know the next project in the house is demolishing the small wall between the kitchen and the dining room to open up the space. We'll the work is starting this weekend - it's both exciting and nerve wracking! Soon we will be able to visualise the space properly but I'm dreading the mess. Wish us luck!
