The Ascension of Melanie Winters*

"She was a monster. But the worst kind of monster. One disguised as a living human.

Melanie Winters is struggling with university life just as much as everyone else. Exams, lectures, the power to move things with her mind, the usual worries.

After a freak accident that she caused, Melanie is forced to move to the Welsh countryside with her mother to start again. But when strange events begin to occur with her arrival, Melanie begins to realise she, and her powers she fought so hard to keep secret, might be part of something sinister."

I love a good sci-fi story and when I read about Holly Stockport's debut novel it ticked all the boxes for me. The book is a great length for an easy read and it kept me turning pages from the very beginning. It has an interesting story line with a few twists and turns along the way.

I found Melanie really relatable which always adds to my enjoyment of a book. Set in Wales the story starts with her struggling with uni (something that is all to current for me) and her close relationship with her mum. Quickly the plot develops into something more dangerous.

The book ended (I actually finished reading it this morning) and I want to know what happens to Melanie and her mum next.

Holly self published her debut novel and I can 100% recommend it if your like sci-fi or dystopian fiction. Support Holly by buying the paperback here or the eBook here.

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or
something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit,
but instead of that, this is excellent blog.
A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
