Me Made: Sew Over It Florence Dress

I already shared my Florence dress in a recent '5 Things That Made Me Happy This Week' post but I thought my first me made dress in almost 10 years deserves it's own blog post. A few months ago I bought myself a sewing machine on Vinted. My mum has always sewn and I eventually got fed up of taking bits round to her house to fix so now I have a machine of my own. I've been bitten by the sewing bug!

On Vinted I also bought a bundle of Simply Sewing magazines and their patterns but the Sew Over It Florence dress wasn't one I was planning to make until I got a bag of free fabric on Facebook Marketplace. I knew instantly this blue patterned fabric would match the Florence dress perfectly.

I found it a relatively easy sew, take your time and understand the instruction step fully before continuing. Buttonholes were a new skill and I had to buy the correct foot for my machine but I eventually got the hang of it and they came out really cute. There are things I could do neater, especially without an overlocker, but overall I am happy. 

Now that I'm fully obsessed with sewing I've been discovering the sewing community on Instagram and came across everyone sharing their 'Make Nine' towards the end of the year. I wanted to have a go myself but I only came up with five... that's not as issue as I plan to do quarterly updates and will find more inspiration through the year. 

I am normally drawn to fabric first then find a pattern to suit later so I've picked out the Mila Dress to make from a black velvet for next Christmas and the ruffle sleeve top will be great in a floral fabric I bought years ago just because I loved it. 

I thought it might be fun to try and make my boyfriend underwear - he is very fussy so if I could get a pattern right it would be a massive help (and something new for me). The same goes for this 1/2 zip sweatshirt pattern because it would be great for work in the right fabric. Finally I have these crowns I want to make for Christmas... I have everything I need I just ran out of time last year.
